With the preponderance of “Dad Rock”, “Dad Bod” and “Dad Joke” put-downs, it seems that dads’ “cool factor” has taken a beating lately. We’re not buying it. We know plenty of cool dads, and plenty of cool products for them – made right here in the Bay. Here are some Father’s Day gift ideas for the cool dad on your list (or for the one that could use a cool upgrade).
Left: We totally love this letterpress card from Oakland’s People I’ve Loved.
Right: From San Francisco’s Koeppel Design, the hardwood LP Block displays album art while keeping the vinyl queue from spinning out of control. It holds 1-3 vinyl records, and comes with an engraved ‘Now Spinning’ laser cut plywood record divider that supports the records, which can be swapped out with any of their genre or alphabetical record dividers (not included). The possibilities for grooving are endless!
Left: The black canvas with leather trim Worker Vest from Oakland’s Claflin, Thayer & Co. will keep dad warm while getting the job done.
Right: From Oakland’s Kali Made Garments, the Track Jacket made of Grey Irish Linen has natural tone highlights throughout and is an ideal weight to wear year round.
Left: The ruggedly stylish Forest Green Canvas Duffel from Oakland’s Guro Designs is a durable, go anywhere bag made of heavy duty 100% cotton canvas with leather handles and a strap attached with swivel hooks and a buckle for lengthening and shortening.
Right: From Oakland’s Brass + Blade, the Black Dopp Kit is made of black top-grain leather that is tough and naturally water resistant. With contrasting leather handle and stitching, and a pull-tab at one end for ease of zipping and unzipping, it’s built for the long haul.
Left: Inspired by utilitarian military watches, the Modern Pilot Watch from Oakland’s Bespoke Watch Projects in brushed gold is a timeless classic with a touch of bling.
Right: Made to last and perfect for the bar, kitchen or workshop, the Stag Lee Apron from San Francisco’s Stagger Lee Goods is made with 9oz Italian blue line selvedge chambray with double stitched pockets, raw copper rivets at stress points, and vegetable tanned 6oz removable leather straps anchored with raw copper buttons.
Left: The handmade Walnut Whisk Broom and Dustpan Set from San Francisco’s Hannah Beatrice Quinn elevates household chores to a new level. It’s so handsome that after tidying up it can be put on display before guests arrive.
Right: Don’t have a cabin in the woods? Not to worry. The Forest Gift Set from Oakland’s Juniper Ridge turns home into a secluded cabin nestled deep in the conifer woods of the Cascade Mountains. Includes Cascade Forest Essential Oil, Cascade Body Wash, Douglas Fir Spring Tips Tea and Douglas Fir Campfire Incense.
Left: From San Francisco’s Alamere Designs, the Sutter Softshell is the perfect mid-weight jacket that is waterproof and able to keep you dry in rain or snow, but light enough to travel. With a clean, minimalist aesthetic, it is a departure from the sporty look usually found with technical apparel and can be dressed up or down for a wide range of conditions.
Right: Pledge allegiance to the Dub Nation with the Certified Dubs t-shirt from Oaklandish.
