Have you noticed the steady decline in the quality and value of mass-produced products these days? Seems that we’re inundated with ultra-fast fashion, disposable design, poor quality materials and ingredients, inferior construction, planned obsolescence, and unethical operational and environmental practices. Here’s some good news. Products from our Bay Area Made community are the antithesis to this troubling trend. We proudly present a dozen Fall classics – timeless products that are high-quality, sustainable, and made locally in small batches.
Left: Arion Press has been pairing great artists with great literature to create beautiful books by hand for a half century. In celebration of the 200th anniversary of its publication, they published the limited edition artist book in collaboration with Tim Hawkinson: Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein; or The Modern Prometheus. The book features an introduction by Todd Hosfelt, proprietor of The Hosfelt Gallery in San Francisco, and nine hypodermic ink drip drawings and a two-color title page vignette by Hawkinson. It is issued in both Standard and Deluxe editions and is Hawkinson’s first artist book.
