My name is Maija Lähdesmäki. I’m an artist inspired by nature, music, my state of mind, and memories. The outcome is reflected in my ceramics, food, and photography.
I like the process driven nature of ceramics, constant problem-solving, and ever evolving learning process. I can never create an exact replica of my own work, because the components of ceramics vary a little bit every time, adding a sense of uniqueness to each piece. I focus mainly on wheel throwing, but I also combine it with hand building, thinking the possibilities are endless that way. Most of my work is functional, every day art, that are meant to be used on a daily basis, but occasionally I make sculptural pieces too, or combine both approaches.
